We’re getting ready for the 51st annual Air and Water Show in Chicago! It’s happening on August 15 and 16 this year, and looks like it’s going to be a great show! This year’s show will feature, among others, the AeroShell Aerobatic Team, the Chicago Fire Department Air and Sea Rescue Team, Lima Lima Flight Team, and the famous U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. The show begins at 10 am each day, and will wrap up around 4 pm. The show takes place along the lakefront between Fullerton Avenue and Oak Street Beach, with the focal point being North Avenue Beach. Millions of people flock to the lakefront every year to catch a glimpse of this amazing event. And of course, don’t forget another great way to see the show…on your own private yacht charter! We are now taking reservations for parties of one, two, or more, for our 3 hour Sunday Air and Water show open cruise. Call for more details at 708-482-4709!

This Saturday is the 52nd annual Venetian Night! The theme for this year’s event is “Hollywood on the Lake”, and promises to be fantastic! The evening will begin at 6pm, with the Red Bull High Rise stunt show at Butler Field, followed by the Air/Sea rescue in Grant Park at 8:15 pm. The main event, the famous boat parade, will begin at 8:30 pm, and will run between the Shedd Aquarium and Chicago Yacht Club at Monroe Harbor. The boat parade began in 1958 as part of Chicago’s lakefront festival, and was modeled after the boat parades in Venice, Italy. It has been a Chicago tradition ever since, and is the longest running, city sponsored event! The evening will be wrapped up with a spectacular fireworks show out on the lake. There are several great ways to enjoy this long-standing Chicago tradition, but our favorite, of course, is with a boat party on your own, private yacht!

As the summer starts heating up, we are looking forward to some fun in the sun! We hope that everyone will keep SunSea in mind for their next special event. We welcome bachelor and bachelorette groups, as well as birthdays, weddings, surprise parties, and fireworks cruises. Don’t forget that the SunSea is also an excellent venue for corporate events! With 15 years of experience, and a luxurious setting, the SunSea provides a beautiful setting for that client thank-you or corporate luncheon, with scenery that just can’t be beat!
Some of our recent charters have had great things to say about our staff and our yacht! One group of bachelorettes had this to say…”My group of ladies had such a good time!!! They all told me thank you for choosing such a great boat for sun or rain! …I know I will book a trip with you guys again sometime & will recommend you to anyone who wants to do a boat trip or party.” We also recently hosted a spectacular wedding! The mother of the bride worked hard to get everything together, and said of SunSea “When we had to book something in 30 days, it was just a scramble to find a location and it was purely by accident that I came across Sun Sea BUT, I’m so glad to have found it… I’m an event planner in Central IL and I know how long it takes and how much work is involved to plan weddings, corporate events, etc. What I still can’t get over is how easy it was to pull it all together working with you and your partners. Thanks for the additional resources that helped us find florists, and a pastor too! The whole experience was uniquely different and very memorable!” We’d like to say “THANK YOU” to all the wonderful groups we have hosted this past month, and we are looking forward to some awesome cruises to come!
**Also, book now and SAVE!! We are currently offering a discount of up to 10% on any weekday (Sunday thru Thursday) cruise when you book before July 31. Call or email us for more details!**

Did you know that, just like the American Flag, each part of the Chicago flag is symbolic? The three white stripes from top to bottom represent the North, West, and South sides of our city. The upper blue stripe represents the North Branch of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. The bottom blue stripe represents the South branch of the river, and the Great Canal (Illinois and Michigan Canal). Each one of the four red stars, of course, symbolises something as well. The first star on the left stands for Fort Dearborn, the original settlement from which Chicago was developed, and in remembrance of the Fort Dearborn Massacre. The second star stands for the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which had a great impact on the history of our city. The third star is for the World’s Columbian Exposition, which was held in 1893, and brought people from all over the country, as well as the world, to celebrate the 400th anniversay of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. The last star represents the Century of Progress fair, which was a World’s fair, and was held in Chicago in 1933 and 1934 and celebrated Chicago’s centennial.
The city’s flag was first proposed in 1915, and was completed in 1917, with only two stars (for the Chicago Fire and the Columbian Exposition). The third star was added in 1933 for the Century of Progress, and the fourth in 1939 to commemorate Fort Dearborn.
The flag of Chicago has not been changed in 70 years, however, if Chicago wins the 2016 Olympic bid, a fifth star may be added to commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime event.
