Chicago Yacht Charters- Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about our yacht charters in Chicago.

Do you provide catering?

Yes, we can provide a variety of menu selections or the opportunity to customize your own culinary delights.

Do you provide beverage service?

We provide a non-alcoholic, Beer, Wine and Soda, Standard and Premium Bar. (See Chicago Prices).

What type of deposit do we need to put down?

A $750.00 deposit is required at the time of booking your date.  We do accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

How far in advance should we book our charter?

As soon as you are positive about the date and time you are booking, BOOK IT. We cannot guarantee a date will be available without a deposit.

Where are you docked?

We are docked at Burnham Harbor (Chicago) Slip C-36.  We are at the northwest wall of the harbor.

How many people does your boat hold?

We are Coast Guard Certified to hold 49 passengers. The Sunsea accommodates private groups from 2-49 guests.

What is your typical cruising route?

Upon leaving Burnham Harbor we head north towards Navy Pier, viewing the Museum Campus area, Chicago’s Famous Skyline, Buckingham Fountain…, enter into the Chicago River Locks and into the Chicago River for a tour of the City (tour guides available for an additional fee). Upon exiting the Chicago River Locks we will head further North towards North Avenue Beach and turn back towards Burnham Harbor.

What is your cancellation policy?

The charter fee is forfeited should the client, for any reason, decide to cancel. Weather condition options to be determined by SunSea Yacht Charters. If bad weather persists, client’s charter fee will be applied to another available date. If weather conditions improve and client canceled early, there will be no refund

What types of events can be hosted on the yacht?

Anything you can think of! In the past, we have hosted corporate luncheons, client thank-yous, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, birthdays, quincenearas, family outings, memorial services, post-proms, bachelor and bachelorette parties,  fireworks cruises, and architectural tours. The possibilities are endless!

Are we allowed to smoke on board?

We are a smoke-free vessel but do allow vapor cigarettes. Vapor smoking is allowed on the front deck only (the bow).

What kind of shoes and attire are suggested?

Be sure to wear shoes with soft or non-marking soles.  Please no dress shoes or high heels!  Heels can be uncomfortable and difficult to walk in out on the open water.  We also have a ladder for access to the upper deck and flats/rubber soled shoes are much easier to get around in.  If you do want to wear heels or dress shoes on arrival and departure, we recommend carrying a pair of flats or sneakers with you to put on before boarding.  Also, keep in mind that it typically feels cooler on the lake, so if the temps are in the 70s or cooler you may want to bring a jacket.  It also tends to be breezy on the lake, so short skirts are also not recommended.  We do have heated indoor space, but also have outdoor decks as well with some of the best views.  Always keep and eye to the weather and make sure to dress accordingly.

What do you recommend for seasickness?

If you know you have a tendency toward motion sickness we recommend taking Dramamine or similar motion sickness medication at least 30 minutes prior to boarding.  Ginger gum and ginger drops are also a great way to help deal with seasickness.  There are also wrist bands available in most pharmacies and drug stores that may help as well.

Are kids allowed on board?

Children are allowed on board our vessel.  It is a requirement however that children under the age of 10 wear a life jacket on all outer decks.  Parents are responsible for providing their own life jackets for any children that require them.
